  • Association for Community Health Improvement
    The Association for Community Health Improvement website is a leading national association for community health, community benefit, and health communities professionals.  Along with noteworthy community health news, the site also offers resources on community health, including data and statistics as well as publications.  The site is free to visit, but some content does require paid membership.
     
  • Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System
    The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System is a state-based surveys that collect information on adult health risk behaviors, clinical preventive practices, and health care access and use primarily related to chronic diseases and injury. Search by state, category and/or year.

  • BioMedSearch.com
    BioMedSearch is a biomedical search engine containing documents from the National Institute of Health and PubMed, as well as a large collection of theses, dissertations, and other publications not found anywhere else.  Users can find information on a variety of health related topics, such as lipid metabolism, pregnancy, diet and cholesterol and hypertension, to name a few.  The site is free and offers an advanced account in which users can save searches, receive alerts, and save documents to portfolios.

  • California Health Interview Survey
    The California Health Interview Survey is the largest state health survey and provides data on health issues facing adults and children in California from 2001 to present. This is an excellent starting point for investigating health conditions and health care concerns like oral health, women's health, public program participation, and more. Search AskCHIS by geographic area and/or main topic. Requires registration (free).

  • Child Trends Databank
    The Child Trends Databank contains over 100-key indicators of child and youth well-being in key areas, like health, social and emotional development, income, assets, and work, and education and skills. You are also able to access data briefs on topics, such as teens and safer driving, early school success and childhood well-being, and more.

  • Healthy People 2010
    Healthy People 2010 is a statement of national health objectives designed to identify the most significant preventable threats to health and to establish national goals to reduce these threats. Fact sheets and slide shows available as well. There is also a link to the proposed objectives for Healthy People 2020, which features the ability for individuals to comment on the proposed objectives and be part of the team assemblying the goals of the program.

  • MedlinePlus
    This is the one-stop shop for health information. Search over 800 topics on health and wellness, including interactive tutorials and visual displays, or read current health news and announcements. Investigate drugs and supplements or clinical trials. Easily locate local resources and medical professionals. Information is available in 40 languages.

  • Medscape from WebMD
    Medscape from WebMD is a part of the WebMD Health Professional Network that primarily aims to serve clinicians and healthcare professionals with comprehensive, relevant clinical information.  Various content is available, including more than 125 medical journals and textbooks, original review articles, patient education articles and book reviews.  Medscape offers an informative email newsletter too.  Registration is free and delivers a personalized specialty site based on your registration profile.

  • National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
    The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey is a program of studies designed to asses the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the United States. Learn about survey content as well as survey results. The site also offers tutorials for using NHANES data.

  • Orange County Health Needs Assessment
    Orange County Health Needs Assessment (OCHNA) is the primary source for health data needs, providing the largest health assessment of its kind at the county level in the State of California. Topics include: breast health, children's health and well-being, major disease, economic well-being, and many more. "Health Facts" offers monthly updates quick facts about Orange County health needs.

  • UCLA School of Public Affairs and Ralph and Goldy Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies
    The purpose of California Policy Options is to collect and publish annually fresh UCLA research on public policy issues facing California. This 2009 edition of California Policy Options, which includes articles on policy topics as diverse as the housing bubble and subsequent burst, K-12 and higher education, transit issues, crime deterrence through video surveillance, and unionization in California, captures the breadth, range, and depth of our research.

  • U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
    Healthy People provides science-based, 10-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans.  For three decades, Healthy People has established benchmarks and monitored progress over time in order to 1) Encourage collaborations across sectors, 2) Guide individuals toward making informed health decisions, and 3) Measure the impact of prevention activities.


  • Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System
    The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) monitors priority health-risk behaviors and the prevalence of obesity and asthma among youth and young adults. The YRBSS includes a national school-based survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state, territorial, tribal, and local surveys conducted by state, territorial, and local education and health agencies and tribal governments.
