History of HARC

January, 2006

The California Wellness Foundation awards the Desert Healthcare Foundation a two year grant of $200,000 to re-brand the Foundation as the regional health data collection system for individuals, agencies and institutions in the Coachella Valley.

July, 2006

The collaborative names the organization HARC, Health Assessment Resource Center. A Steering Committee of 30 community organizations forms to guide the survey process, and the geographical coverage area expands to include Eastern Riverside County. 
 

August, 2006 through January, 2008

The adult and child survey instrument is developed with input from HARC’s Steering Committee Ad Hoc adult and child teams. 

September, 2006

HARC incorporates and forms a Board of Directors, making application for nonprofit status.

February and March, 2007

Field survey begins, encompassing 50,000 calls needed to achieve 3,150 completed responses.

February 26th, HARC receives its 501 (c) 3 tax status from the Internal Revenue Service.

April, 2007 

Researchers send weighted data for analysis.

Winter, 2007-2008

Survey findings to be presented at major public event.  HARC will provide overview on ways in which to utilize the data for development of programs and services.

February 13, 2008

Key findings from the survey are presented to over 160 attendees at California State University San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus.  Each attendee is provided with an Executive Summary highlighting over 140 keys findings.

HARC partners with the UCLA Health DATA Program providing training to empower participants to understand, apply and present findings from the HARC Health Needs Assessment and other relevant health research data in their advocacy and policy work in the Eastern Riverside County.

The HARC Steering Committee convenes to begin discussions regarding the development of the 2010 adult and child questionnaire.

March, 2009 through June, 2009

The Ad Hoc Teams met to review the 2007 questionnaires and make recommendations for revisions/changes.

March, 2009

HARC announces the formation of an Honorary Board and is grateful to those who have agreed to support its mission.   
 
April, 2009

HARC joins The California Endowment's 10-year Strategic Initiative to support the development of healthy communities throughout California.

July, 2009

The HARC Steering Committee convenes to ratify the 2010 questionnaire recommendations of the Ad Hoc Teams.

January, 2010

HARC Board of Directors convene to develop a 3 year Strategic Plan.

February, 2010

MACO International begins the random digit and cell phone, only calling for the 2010 data collection.  MACRO will be in the field through the end of April, 2010.

May, 2010

HARC presents "HARC Notes", a supplemental look at a topic covered in the 2007 health needs assessment.  This premier issue covers senior obesity.

September,  2010

HARC honored with top Innovation Award from the Nonprofit Resource Center. HARC is recognized for groundbreakting efforts in public health research.

April, 2011

Presentation of the second triennial survey, 2010 Community Health Monitor, the most comprehensive health needs assessment conducted in Eastern Riverside County.  The event is held at California State University San Bernardino, Palm Desert campus and is attended by over 175 members of the community.  Each attendee is provided with the 2010 Executive Report of the Community Health Monitor which includes many key findings from the survey.

May 2011

HARC announces the release of the 2010 health heeds assessment data for the Coachella Valley 9 cities and unincorporated areas.

July, 2011

HARC Announces 2011-2012 Board of Directors.  Officers are: Glen Grayman, MD, MBA, CPE, FACEP, Board President; John W. Mich, Vice-President; Aurora Wilson, Treasurer, and Sarah Mack, MPH,  Secretary.

July, 2011

HARC Announces a Special Report On Seniors 55 and Older.

September, 2011

HARC releases the 4th Annual Report, July 2010-2011.  The annual report communicates the progress HARC has made in expanding services, and how the utilization of this data has helped community organizations develop policy and program support.

October, 2011

HARC presents two Training Workshops to understand, apply and present findings from the HARC Health Needs Assessment and other relevant health research data for health advocacy and policy work in Riverside County.
